Canopy Repairs
Many small kite wing and kite repairs can be done by you,we sell a range of tapes and patches that will repair small tears in the canopy, its always worth keeping a few spares in your bag.
We will be making videos shortly to show how it is best to do these small repairs and show you some of the tricks to do them well so they will last.
A few tips in the mean time.
Make sure the area is held flat, you can get a board about 12mm ,Ply will do ,but sand of the sharpe edges.
Get some small clamps and clamp the area to the board.
Cut a few small stripes of selfadhesive repair tape and carfully stick the tear back in place.
Cut 2 patches the same size with radiused corners the same size and stick these either side.
Make Sure the area is clean and dry before you start the repair.
It is a good idea to lightly warm the patches when you have put them in place with a WARM - NOT HOT !! hair dryer ,this helps the adhesive on the tape to bond.
Struts & Leading Edges
These generally need to be repaired by a profesional as its necessary to get a patch on the inside of the damaged area.
Bladders
These are not so easy to repair - The worst to fix are the very small pin prick holes - they are hard to FIND !
When you have ,its very important to make sure the bladder is clean and dry and free of sand - sand can put small holes in the bladder and are hard to Find!!
Use a board and clamp the bladder to the board so it is flat - Its important to not clamp sand particles undr the clamps - this could make more holes - Dont use powerful clamps to clamp bladders !! they will make holes.
Make sure the area is clean & dry and stick a bladder patch onto the area - to big is better than to small ,leave enough area around the damage to make a good seal, Sometimes the Bladder patche do not stick, if you use a hair dryer to gently head the area - Again NOT to hot ,this will help the patch to stick.
